The 2017 Shaurya Divas has been special for superstar Akshay Kumar, not because he was attending the function as Guest of Honor, but for fact that his idea to help families of martyrs, proposed before the Govt of India, bore fruit in a short span of two and a half months.
Launching the web portal and mobile app titled “Bharat ke Veer” in the presence of Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, the Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh said “koi jawan, adhikaari shaheed hota hai, kisi bhi surat me, 1 crore se kam ki dhan rashi uske parivaar ke logon ko nani milni chahiye” (if any Jawaan or Officer is killed, family of such martyr, in no case should get compensation below one crore). Further, observing that various state governments are already providing monetary compensation to the families of slain soldiers, he said, there is still some gap which needs to be filled. The website “Bharat ke Veer”is a step in this direction.
The website sets the tone right by saying that Brave soldiers of Central Armed Police Forces fight a daily battle to safeguard India’s external and internal security. Protecting the borders in the west with Pakistan and in the north and east with China; and, facing the threats generated by the militants in Jammu and Kashmir, insurgence in the north east; and Maoist extremists in the central and east India, to keep us safe. One soldier loses his/her life every fourth day and one is permanently incapacitated. This is our homage to the bravehearts and an effort to provide support to their families.

Those willing to contribute has the liberty to choose individual braveheart and pay directly into their (Next of Kin’s) account or may donate to the “Bharat Ke Veer” corpus. To disburse the fund equitably to the braveheart's family “Bharat Ke Veer” corpus is managed by a committee comprised of eminent persons of repute and senior government officials, in equal number. To ensure maximum coverage, a cap of Rs 15 lakhs has been envisaged per braveheart. Donor would be alerted if the amount exceeds Rs 15 lakhs, so that one can either choose to decrease the amount of contribution or divert part of it in favour of another braveheart's account, or to the “Bharat Ke Veer” corpus.

The procedure for donation is quite simple and could be made by online transfers through net banking, debit cards or credit cards. On successful completion of process, a certificate is generated which instantly acknowledges receipt of the amount paid.

I urge fellow countrymen (including women folks) to come forward and donate whatever amount one intend to donate. Our contribution, however small, could make a large difference in the lives of those families who lost their near and dear one’s in the line of duty. Those families deserve the support of each one of us. Jai Hind!
