The Andaman and Nicobar Administration notified vacancies for the posts of Stenographer(Ordinary Grade) and LGC which would be filled based on the result of the Competitive Recruitment Examination conducted with the assistance of Staff Selection Commission, New Delhi.
Since this is the first time an attempt is being made to invite applications online, poor internet connectivity and to some extent candidates limited exposure to www culture, the Administrations novel initiative evoked mixed response.

I too faced some issues and notified them to the authorities concerned along with probable solutions and suggestions. To my utter surprise, the authorities responded proactively to my suggestions and incorporated necessary changes in the registration process. This page has been created to help candidates in knowing the system and overcome some of the issues they are likely to face with the online registration procedure. However let me clear it before hand that this page is NOT THE OFFICIAL PAGE, nor intends to replace the official web resources hoisted by Administration for the purpose.
Candidates are advised to carefully go through the detailed advertisement published in leading dailies and the official recruitment portal or the official web portal of Andaman and Nicobar Administration. A snapshot of the official recruitment portal is shown alongside for reference.

It is suggested before actually filling the online registration form, keep the following documents handy : 1) Class X Pass Certificate 2) Class XII Pass Certificate 3) Class X Mark sheet 4) Class XII Mark sheet and 5) Copy of Employment Exchange Registration Card. Also locate the serial number of each of the first four documents and Employment Exchange Registration Number. These details are required to be filled (typed) correctly at the appropriate box.

Candidates also need to know the PIN code of the address they are going to provide. Remember mentioning PIN code in the address helps Post Office in correct sorting thus ensures speedy and efficient delivery of mails at our address.

Now if you are ready with the documents, log on to the official Recruitment Portal : http://ls.and.nic.in/rec/ Other than Press Release, Helpline Number (03192 234335) etc, lower half of the webpage contains the following links :
Click here to proceed to online application for Stenographer(OG)
Depending on the choice of post, click the appropriate link. This will load the instructions page (in the same window). Read the instructions carefully then click on the link provided at the bottom of the page to proceed to the candidate entry page. Snapshot of the candidate entry page is given alongside for reference.

Here is it worth mentioning some browsers may not load the pages/some of the features properly. Therefore first find out if the page has loaded fully (from Serial No 1 to 21). To do so scroll down to the end of the page and look for SUBMIT button. If SUBMIT button is visible its fine else refresh/reload the page. If the problem still persists change the browser and try again until the SUBMIT button is visible at the bottom end of the page.

Next, go to item number 7 (Date of Birth) and click the small calendar tool provided alongside the box where DOB is to be entered. See if you are able to move the year and month back and forth using scroll keys provided at the top of the calendar tool. If you are able to locate your date of birth correctly, then there should not be any problem with the browser. You can now proceed to register online.

Candidates should fill the online form starting from item No 1 (Select your District) and avoid jumping to subsequent box lest you may skip important entries which may eventually lead to rejection of application. Once all the relevant details have been typed, verify the correctness of the entries since editing or modification will not be possible after the page is submitted.
Further since filling all the details takes a little time, the captcha may not match. If it is so, do not press other keys at random, just refresh/reload the captcha and enter the new set of characters. Wait a few seconds for the system to generate the acknowledgement page. Note down the Application Serial Number (important) and proceed to print the online version of the application form.

In case one fails to take printout due to internet connectivity, power failure or other problems, there is no reason to panic. Go to the recruitment portal and you will see there is a link to Print copy of online application. click at the appropriate link.

You will be prompted to provide Application Number or Candidates Name (No initials) and Date of Birth (in the format DD-MM-YYYY), the concerned application will load. Take print out in A4 size paper (2 pages), carefully check correctness of all the entries. Affix PP sized Photograph, Signature (across the photograph, and at two other places on the form) and Left thumb Impression at the appropriate box, attach copies of relevant documents and submit/send the application form with enclosures to the Deputy/Assistant Secretary (Perl), A&N Administration Secretariat, Port Blair-744101.
It is understood a box has been kept at the Personnel Wing of the A&N Administration Secretariat (1st floor) for collection of forms. Those candidates who wish to submit the printout by Speed Post / Courier or other means of surface mail must do it WELL IN ADVANCE so that application reaches before closing date ie 14/06/2013 (extended upto 1600 Hrs of July 16, 2013) for the post of Stenographer (Ordinary Grade) and 30/06/2013 (extended upto 1600 Hrs of July 16, 2013) for the post of Lower Grade Clerk (LGC).

For further information go through the detailed advertisement published in leading dailies and the official recruitment portal or official web portal of Andaman and Nicobar Administration. There is a helpline (03192 234335)  and email <support-rec.and@nic.in> which one must use in need.

Candidates who successfully registered and submitted printout, this is only the first step. The next big thing is preparing well for the Written and the Skill Test. Since number of candidates will be more than available vacancies,  competition will be stiff. Further it must be borne in the mind that marks obtained in Part-I Written Test will decide ranking (merit position). Part-II is mere qualifying in nature. So buy/read a good book, practice basic arithmetic, read newspaper (beyond headlines), Listen to TV/Radio News broadcasts and prepare yourself well for the challenge ahead. All the Best!
